The Linux Journal recently published an article I wrote on Jean-Pierre Lemoine’s AVSynthesis, a program designed for artists working with the computer as a medium for the synthesis of image and sound. I’m fascinated by that program, so I decided to research the existence of similar software. This article presents the current findings from that research.

Analyst Evans Data Corporation has reported that only 8 percent of developers are targetting Windows Vista while 49 percent are still developing for Windows XP.

John Andrews, CEO & president of Evans Data, says developers are on a wait-and-see mode on Vista because of driver issues, software incompatibility and steep hardware requirements.

It’s pretty ironic since developer’s are on a wait and see mode expecting that software and driver compatibilities would vanish when in fact, 49% of these folks are contributing to delayed stability of Vista because of their continuous support for XP instead of targeting Vista right away.

The major item that Microsoft needs to solve is the high demand of hardware requirements, and given the current economic state, it would be harder for folks to spend a lot of money for it. If only they made the hardware minimum not as demanding as it is today, then army of developers would have long targeted the new OS.

About SonicMood
Bathes you in gentle tones played by selected instruments to calm and relax you, and block out background noise, while you work. It’s like “Mood Chimes”, notes which vary like chimes blown by the wind. The patterns never repeat and are gentle, soothing, and harmonious. There are 28 different sets of “chimes” using different instruments, including bells, crystals, kalimbas, glockenspiels, violins, and many others. Audio files of nature sounds are added to each of the 28 pre-defined Moods. You can alter those Moods or create your own. It’s ambient music at its best!

About Schreiben
Word Processor. Simple. Fast. Centric.
Schreiben was my first application for Mac OS X.
I needed a fast, clean and easy to use word processor which opens in the middle of the screen. I don‘t like the behaviour of other word processors you first have to center on the screen. Three years later Schreiben is still one of my favorite applications and because other developers let me learn from their code, I did not use Word for years now.

Schreiben is based on the Cocoa Text System – so you can open and write RichText and Word Files. With version 3.0.1+ you can now open and save .docx (Word 2007) and .odt (Open Office Documents) and if needed export Word Documents with Pictures. You can create tables, drop and resize pictures or even write XML. Schreiben has got an integrated statistic (Character, Words, Lines) so you won´t miss your editors/teachers defaults. Schreiben can be used in Fullscreen View, supports Smart Quotes, automatically saving from documents with selectable interval and many formatting features that will help you creating well styled pages, writings, letters or even whole books. You can also store often used Snippets (so you don’t have to start from scratch if you want to write a letter for example)…
